Tip: I highly recommend checking out my first video, Vim for Absolute Beginners, before diving into the setup!

Let’s install Neovim on Windows and go over the basic terminal setup.

Download Neovim here

Neovim Lazy.nvim Setup on Windows

Next, we will configure lazy.nvim as our plugin manager. You can find the official setup instructions on the Lazy.nvim website or their GitHub.

Where to put your config files:

  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\nvim (usually C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\nvim)
  • Linux/macOS: ~/.config/nvim

Note: If you can’t see these folders, make sure “show hidden files” is turned on in your file explorer. Still missing? Create one.

Fix Terminal Fonts (Windows) with Nerd Fonts

Seeing weird boxes instead of icons in Neovim? You need to install a Nerd Font. Download one from Nerd Fonts and set it as your terminal’s default font.
